What a woman!   / Vicki Horst (Niece)
My Aunt Frances was a wonderful woman. She was full of love and encouragement for her family as well as all she met. Some of my memories are of an Easter egg hunt at her house in Costa Mesa. The whole family would gather and celebrate all day. All th...  Continue >>
Her Lagacy   / Michael Schroeder (Acquaintance)
As a part time resident of Needles, I only got to meet and speak with Frances on a few occasions over the years.  She was always so very pleasant.  What I admired most is how she spoke of her son, Jim.  As a young man, I would often wo...  Continue >>

Her legacy
Frances E. Pfeifer

Frances E. Pfeifer

“How fleeting is the time we have- we do not know
when our life will be at an end, so it behooves us to
always be kind to our loved ones, to be gracious to our neighbors
and to have a smile for the strangers we meet…”

Frances E. Pfeifer
jotted down those heartfelt words while expressing her grief
at the loss of a cherished friend in May of 1989.
A short 19 yrs later, those of us who were blessed enough to
know Frances are missing her presence and kind , loving words of
wisdom. Born in Kewanee, IL., Frances’s life could fill a page turning
novel with tales of her ventures throughout Portland, OR, Bakersfield, Costa Mesa, Niland, Needles and Palm Desert, CA. The unforgettable characters in her life such as her late husband Martin L. Pfeifer, cherished grandparents, 5 brothers (James, Gene, Bill , Leo and Bobby Barnett, her sisters Dorothy Horst and Kathy Kerbyson, many nieces and nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, grandson, beloved son and daughter in law Jim and Barb, and countless friends. Frances was a dedicated practicing Christian Seventh Day Adventist for 59 years, making her faith the foundation of her loving and giving ways though out her life.

A handwritten page in Frances‘s journal reads:

“You must treasure love because its all there is that matters.
Everyone is not lucky enough to take it when it is offered or to hold onto it when they have it. Things get in the way, sometimes pride, resentments, our absorption in self or a mistaken sense of duty. Cherish being loved and give your love in return. It is love that money cannot buy. A treasure far more precious than gold or silver”

What a “treasure” Frances was and will always be to those who were touched by her presence. Her life was an example of the Golden Rule, and her kindness and joy continues to be passed along from those whose lives she touched through the continuous acts of kindness that we give to others.
Condolences will be accepted in the form of donations to the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary of Needles, CA. You are invited to send a message to the family, light a memorial candle, share memories of Frances and learn more about her inspiring adventures in her 92 years of life by visiting the pages of this memorial web site.
 Thank You and God Bless!
